(1185) On the 24th day of the 3rd month, the Minamoto and Taira faced each other at sea at Dan-no-ura in Akama-seki, Nagato, with their ships moored about three chō apart and fought. More than 500 Taira ships, divided into three groups, had Yamaga Hidetō and the Matsura clan as their commanders. At noon the Taira were finally defeated. The Nii-dono (Dai-ni-hōhō Nun) embraced the sacred sword, and together with the Emperor Antoku (aged eight) sank beneath the sea. Kenreimon'in was rescued, and Munemori and Kiyomune were captured alive by Ise no Tanemori.
