In the third month Wei King Cao Cao came out from Chang'an through Xiegu, blocked the key passes and approached Hanzhong. Liu Bei, without fighting in dangerous terrain, held firm and said, 'the Han River is mine.' When Cao Cao moved grain beneath the northern mountain, Huang Zhong tried to seize it but missed the deadline; Zhao Yun went out with a few dozen cavalry to rescue him.
