Azuma Kagami (Mirror of the East) · AD 1181 · 尾張 墨俣川

On the 10th day of the 3rd month, Yukiie (Jūrō-kurando) camped by the Sunomata river with warriors of Owari and Mikawa, while the Taira generals Shigehira, Koremori, Michimori, and Tadanori held the west bank. Yukiie planned a secret night attack, but Shigehira's attendant discovered it and told them, so the Taira attacked first and Yukiie's army fell into chaos. Yoshimaru Zenji was killed by Morotsuna, Kurando Jirō was taken alive by Tadanori, and Izumi Tarō and his brother were killed by Morihisa. About 690 men are said to have drowned or died of wounds.
